Today’s world is busy and full of distractions. Be it through smartphones or television screens, we seem to be moving further away from a connection to human beings and the natural world.

As the internet expands its reach across the globe and social media gains more traction, we are distracted by a constant influx of information. On average, Americans check their phones 344 times per day. That equates to more than once every three minutes we are awake! While not all content online is negative, we cannot help but internalize some of the underlying angst.

In addition to these distractions, the number of stressors in our daily lives is escalating every year: financial pressures, relationship troubles, alcohol and substance abuse, work and school competition, political and social polarity.

As the world continues to move at a frenetic pace, our thinking patterns have become more scattered and discursive, causing a negative impact on our mental health.

IT IS QUITE COMMON NOWADAYS TO FEEL:

  • Trapped in negative thought patterns

  • Overwhelmed and out of control

  • Exhausted but unable to sleep

  • Stressed out for no specific reason

  • Overly self-critical

  • Angry or judgmental of others

  • Antsy, agitated, or unable to relax

  • Rushed, sped up, or in a constant state of hurry

If you identify with any of the above...YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Over 30% of American adults in an ongoing 2022 study report experiencing symptoms of anxiety and/or depression in the past week of their lives.

Despite what we have been told, time (on its own) does not heal all wounds, and avoiding our pain and discomfort can be extremely detrimental to our well-being.

A recent study by the APS found that ‘repetitive negative thinking and worry predict a wide range of psychopathology, including depression, anxiety, insomnia, and binge eating. In other words, the consequences for allowing these destructive thinking patterns to persist are dire.

WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?

While there are generally no quick-fixes in psychology, we can start by holding ourselves accountable for our wellness, and committing to TAKE ACTION.

Just the fact that you are browsing this website is a step in the right direction. A recent study showed that over 27% of adults who experience symptoms of anxiety and/or depression report not receiving ANY counseling or therapy at all. So give yourself some credit for getting this far.

The next step is talking to a professional about what’s on your mind. Be it here at Mindflo (where we offer free consultations) or any other practice, making that first appointment is crucial.

WHAT IS MINDFLO?

Mindflo is a multidimensional approach to counseling rooted in Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

We will work on mindfulness tactics such as unplugging (primarily from our smartphones), deep breathing, non-judgmental awareness, and cognitive identification. You will learn to identify and differentiate between your thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Perspectives and tools such as equanimity, self kindness, and impermanence may be broached in session, but always at a pace dictated by the client. While the therapist may help navigate or steady the wheel at times, the client has sole control of the gas and brake pedals.

It is perfectly normal to experience negative emotions at times, but filling up our days with anxiety, judgment, and fear is not who we were meant to be. We all have the ability to feel confident, calm, and clear-minded in our daily lives.

There is a voice that doesn’t use words. Listen.

we can clarify our confusion and release destructive views and opinions
